The Integrative Healthcare Symposium occurs each February in midtown Manhattan (New York Hilton Midtown) and typically features many of the luminaries of the world of what we have come to call "functional medicine," although to my mind it's really a mash-up of really good detective medicine (questions, questions, questions and a nearly whole life history) with a focus on nutrition and lifestyle: Mark Hyman, David Perlmutter, last year Kara Fitzgerald, this year Robert Roundtree, Patrick Hanaway, Joe Pizzorno and even Jeffrey Bland!
I also have always enjoyed Tieraona Low Dog (ask me for mp3 audio of her 2014 talk) and Sara Gottfried, who were part of a roundtable discussion this year.
"Precision medicine" more recently became the buzzword, which to me is more focused on personal genetics-- and how to use this relatively recently available information and (still very much work-in-progress to my mind) understanding to, I guess we have to say, "optimize" diet, exercise, work and lifestyle habits.
I hope to cover the growing menu of different companies' products in an upcoming post-- and even to "taste test" and then compare the most highly regarded 3 or 4 products, probably 3x4 Genetics, Toolbox Genomics and perhaps Robert Hedaya's preferred company, name escaping me at the moment.
For now though, IHS.
No one this year so far has really wowed me (and more than a few have disappointed, including Geo Espinosa, JJ Virgin, Everest Goldstein, Penny Kendall-Reed, even Joel Evans and Robert Roundtree this year; and "The Heart of Anti-Aging" talk turned out to be kind of an infomercial), but I have a few yet to view. Oddly enough, I have always been a big fan of Hal Blatman, even if his specialty is fascia, first running into him at a SAR conference in Ann Arbor, MI in 2014. I suppose it's my acupuncture background.
The Fleetwood company has not offered us the customary mp3 downloads this year, so in order to share these I will have to sort of videorecord them through my computer and then save as mp4 (likely quite large) file. Or I suppose I could record the audio only. I am happy to do either, though, if you see specific talks of particular interest. I could even pop a thumb drive/flash drive in the mail. And I suppose there is also Dropbox, although I haven't used Dropbox in ages!
I also need to circle back to 2023's conference (I missed it due to eldercare responsibilities in Florida) and will post a separate, hopefully shortly upcoming notice with those titles.
(Mom recently turned 86, lives independently, drives, shops, cooks daily (although we paid for a meal kit service, Nutrition For Longevity, while she was getting her strength back after hip surgery), and is thriving again, just in case you were curious. Thanks to PhytoMulti, digestive enzymes, low-dose botanical antimicrobial support (with berberine), NAD+ Platinum, liposomal glutathione, vitamin C + R-lipoic acid (both as antioxidants as well as glutathione "recyclers," only for a month or two post-surgery), supplemental protein powder and, truth be told, the IFM's Detox Food Plan recipes and William Davis' Lactobacillus reuteri homemade yogurt recipe, all, incidentally, guided by the results from her NutrEval results (Genova Diagnostics).
